About
I am a Research Associate in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Cambridge, which I joined in 2024 as a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Postdoc.Mobility fellow.
I study the physics of oceans and lakes in a changing climate, combining observations, numerical modelling, and data-driven methods. I am interested in how physical processes shape aquatic ecosystems.
At Cambridge, I work on Arctic Ocean dynamics and turbulent mixing, including its parameterisation in climate models using machine learning, and on how sea-ice loss affects water mass transformation and, in turn, the Atlantic overturning circulation. I also contribute to CANARI, a NERC programme on how climate change in the Arctic–North Atlantic region affects the UK, with a focus on extreme weather and rapid change.
Before Cambridge, I completed my PhD and a postdoc in physical limnology at EPFL in Switzerland, where I studied transport processes in Lake Geneva, such as coastal upwelling, interbasin exchange, and internal waves. These processes drive deepwater renewal and reoxygenation, as well as the dispersion of sediments, nutrients, and pollutants.
Before my PhD, I worked as an R&D engineer at Bosch in Germany, developing ultrasonic sensors for autonomous driving, from numerical modelling to building prototypes and testing them in the lab and in the field.
